Question by Sophia’s Mommy: Moms, What do you honestly think of the duggars? Or other parents putting there child on Tv?
I used to really like the duggars and as a Christian myself, I really looked up to them.
However I stopped watching the show when I found out that they made 50K per eposide and that there house was paid for by “Extreme home makeover’

I think the way they parent is great but they don’t have the same stressors that most parents have. Number one, Being the provider for them.

What do you think about them and how they are raising there kids?

The duggars, the Rolloffs, Kate Plus 8. The little couple,…then Latest one. Little Couple BIG Charlie.
Season One started off where they were living in a Small Apartment with a baby and by the second season they had a larger house..They live off her Sectary job while he is a SAHD in a Huge House (Bull)

Reality TV these days, has be turning off the TV more and thanking God for my normal life.

i think the duggars are freaks. every time i watch that show i feel terrible for the older children still living in the house, because they are the ones taking care of the younger ones. i never see the parents doing anything. and, its not good for those children all around because what kind of time do they actually get with their parents one on one? probably none. and i think that woman is WAY too old to be having kids still, because before you know it they will be having a special needs child due to her age. its just not right.

it seems to me like the older kids are being forced to raise the younger ones so the parents can screw like bunnies. its terrible.

I have an aversion to reality TV for a reason, but I admit I have seen the headlines about these people so I decided to watch the show. Yeah, the kids are cute, but I had no idea of what this thing was all about. Ponys and rainbows it isn’t… I feel very sorry for these kids. They are being exploited and it seems as though the parents could really care less about them. I don’t think the parents don’t love the kids, but I think their “business venture” has turned out to be a lot more than they bargained for, and sadly the kids are not the top priority in their lives. I give Kate credit for being a shrewd business woman, because like it or not that is what she is, but the ethics behind this show are very questionable in my opinion. Others thoughts are worth hearing as well.

Kate, in my opinion, probably drove Jon away to other women. She is so horribly self-absorbed, and you can tell when all she talks about is how much her kids love her instead of pointing out good traits about her kids and her husband. As soon as her million dollar contract runs out with TLC she will probably bolt out of that marriage. I agree with you about the exploitation of her kids.

I haven’t kept up with the show for the past few months, but I had heard they moved into a new house. So I looked it up and this is what I see. I was shocked — and disgusted frankly. I used to LOVE the show because they seemed so down to earth and like a real family living in amazing circumstances. But now they seem like a huge sell-out — exploiting their children now to live in a million dollar extravagant mansion. I just don’t think I can watch the show anymore. They are no different than Nadya Suleman and her octuplets now in my mind. It’s no wonder she wanted to have all those babies after seeing what a money pit having all those children can be if you land your own reality show. It’s just very disappointing to me how Jon and Kate have changed.

Any opinions?
I’m not trying to say that they had that many kids purposely to make money like Nadya Suleman, so sorry if I made it sound that way.

Also, you CAN live in a “non-mansion” house with 10 people in it. My dad grew up in a family of 13 during the depression and they grew up happily in a modest five-bedroom farmhouse. Also, I had to share bedrooms with my siblings until I got into high school because I too come from a large family.

I’m just disappointed because Jon and Kate are no longer the simple “normal” family they used to be. No doubt they love their children, but they are just too different now in their mansion and rich lifestyle, and I will no longer watch their show.

I agree with you by benefitting by making so much money off of having so many children. I agree it’s wrong and messed up to get rich off it. But it’s mainstream media, they’ll get money as long as people find it interesting.

The reason I think Jon and Kate + 8 are justified and are not seceptable to such criticism as Nadya is for this reason. Jon works as an engineer or whatever, he was able to provide for his family without all their endorsements and media payments. It would be no where near as extravigant a lifestyle, but it’d still be a decent one for all those kids. Nadya has no jobs, and knowingly brought more kids into the world to basically be screwed from the start. Jon and Kate brought kids into the world knowing they could care for them.

idk how to spell her name but i was listening to the radio this morning and it said that she is getting her own show. and on her new show she is going around and is going to help other families.. the people on the radio commented that she cant even help her own family.. which is why i bring this up.!?

Personally I think she’s not all there. It’s one thing wanting a lot of children, but 14 is really going overboard without knowing how you’re going to support them. I have a feeling she was hoping for the same type of help and donations that Kate Gosselin received (the mother of the sixtuplets on Jon and Kate plus 8). But all she’s getting is backlash!
