Question by Rocking the Free World Since Whenever: How come they don’t make movies (or TV) about African-American families with LOTS of children?
Last night I dreamed I was watching some hokey movie about a family that had about 10-12 kids. You know the type: goofy-looking dad, pretty mother, cutesy kids and a pair of twins that get up to mischief. It was like “Cheaper by the Dozen” but the family were African-American. The plot was really lame and forgettable.

It was only after I woke up that I realised that I’d watched lots of movies like that in real life – but never about a black family. And there are reality TV shows like Eighteen and Counting and Kate Plus 8, but I didn’t know of any about African-American families squeezing out 18 kids or something.

And I guess now I’m wondering: why not? I’m pretty bored with shows like the Duggars, but a show with an African-American family might be refreshing (until I got bored with them as well, anyway).

PS: Please do not say the Cosbys or Family Matters like they did on some other question, because they only had 3-4 children. I’m talking 8-20 children.
Such families might be rare in real life (even though the Duggars are on TV), but for a movie one could hire actors to play the roles of the family members.

I was watching a special on TV and this lady who studies them siad that she continuously shows favoritism towards specific children. She didn’t say which ones though.

Which children do you think she favors?

I doubt they will be as much fun as Jon and Kate Plus Eight or the fundamentalist family with close to twenty kids. But just wait, they will be there for your viewing pleasure. She already has an agency in charge of cashing in on her story – octuplets born on the heals of six other children, all under the age of 7.

Several of these babies will most likely have serious developmental and/or health problems due to their very low birth weight. My husband’s grandson, Jon, was born at the same birth weight of most of these children. He is blind and severely retarded.

Do you think America will accept this as entertainment?

I was thinking about octomom, and jon and kate plus 8, 18 kids and counting and all of those other shows which have children rather than they can afford. Like I understand Jon and Kate didn’t intend to have eight kids, so I am mainly talking about others who had kids year after year after year on purpose. Are they just doing this to earn an award for the most kids?
Sorry I was just naming tv shows, and I was unaware of the 18 kids and counting being debt free. I was simply naming off shows which had large numbers of kids in it.

No it’s not right to have more kids then you can afford..the children are the ones who suffer in those situations. It is very selfish to bring a child into this world without the means to take care of it emotionally and financially!
Some woman like the case of the octomom have done it to increase there monthly government check and many people think that way when on the system. The government needs to make changes so this no longer happens and people in general need to wake up and be more responsible when dealing with reproduction.

Not trying to offend anyone, but I think 3 MAYBE 4 should be the cut-off. I’m so sick of hearing about “Octo-Mom” and “Jon and Kate Plus Eight” and especially that “18 Kids and Counting” show!
I have no limitations to adoption, but it’s frustrating how many people just pop out kids like litters of puppies. My husband and I want 2 of our own biological children, then if we make enough money we would like to adopt another 2. It just makes me sad how many kids are up for adoption, and yet some people just keep popping out more kids. Also, I think if you are going to have a child you should be able to take care of it and provide a loving environment-not use them to be on reality TV!!
China has a strict population control of no more than 2 children.

Twins
The twins were born on October 8, 2000 (2000-10-08) (age 7). They are currently in the 1st grade at a private school. They were just six minutes apart. In birth order, they are:

Cara Nicole Gosselin
Madelyn Kate “Mady” Gosselin
Sextuplets
The sextuplets were born on May 10, 2004 (2004-05-10) (age 4) at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. All six children were delivered within a span of three minutes with more than fifty doctors, nurses and other specialists involved. Since the sextuplets were born in Hershey, they are called “Hershey Kisses” by the nurses and doctors who delivered them.

In birth order they are:

Alexis Faith Gosselin – 2 lb 11.5 oz, 15 inches long
Hannah Joy Gosselin – 2 lb 11 oz, 13.8 inches long
Aaden Jonathan Gosselin – 2 lb 7.5 oz, 13 inches long
Collin Thomas Gosselin – 3 lb 0.5 oz, 15 inches long
Leah Hope Gosselin – 2 lb 14.8 oz, 15.4 inches long

It’s a pretty interesting show, but the two oldest kids (admittedly) are kinda annoying.

They are exploiting their children just for the money. They are the only family on tv that does it for the money. Both Jon and Kate need to get a real job and stop using the kids.

All the kids sit around the table and do some sort of exercise so they can practice their names (can’t remember if they are writing, coloring or what they were doing.) But it was really a neat idea to do with your kids.
