What is the difference between a carnival and a fair ?
Question by Anabel: What is the difference between a carnival and a fair ?
Well Im throwing a Carnival Birthday Party for an 11 year old.She is turning 12. I know you probably think she’s a little too old for a carnival B-Day but she has never had any big birthday party. And ever since she saw an Episode of Kate Plus Eight where she did a carnival for the younger kids 5th birthday or something she has always wanted the same thing. The thing is im on a budget. Anyways I just want to know the difference so I can do Carnival Related things because we have only been to fairs.

Essentially, a carnival consists of the flat rides (ex. Tilt-A-Whirl), sideshow attractions (ex. puppet show), and pay-for-play carnival games (ex. ring toss) that exist either as a stand-alone carnival or as a part of a fair. In this day and age, many people do not make any attempt to distinguish between the two terms, and so they have been somewhat blended together.
If you want to turn a fair theme into a carnival theme, simply remove the animals, vegetables, and folk art.
